Typically, professional pressing is done by hot iron plates and torso shaped presses. Stiff, crisp finishes were achieved for a fairly good result.

A European breakthrough has led to the design known as 'tensioning finishing' that avoids the use of hot iron plates, instead using the garment's own shape to give it a perfect, soft finish.
